Another summer day in Paradise

Wow- it's already mid-August! Where did summer go? I must admit though, after climbing in a few different mountain ranges this summer, I must say that it is good to be home. Travelling always allows a fresh perspective, and I am reminded of how beautiful and accessible the climbing is around here, and how great small mountain town living is. Despite a wet early season, lately it's been dry and sunny, cool & starry at night, and the rock feels nice and grippy.

August is of course a big vacation month, and this year is no exception. A lot of our regular guests are around, and it's been great to get out on the rock with them again. Last week I climbed a few days with Jacob and Hannah. While mom insists they scrap a lot, on the rock they were an excellent team. Summer is not over yet- so I'm looking forward to more good days in the coming weeks. And the BEST month to rock climb in the Adirondacks? September- and midweek you can have the place to yourself, and the colorful autumn foliage has to bee seen to be believed.

EXPEDITION UPDATE: Emilie is due back later next week- just in time fore the Chicks Rock / Sterling Girly Gathering here in Keene Valley. She'll surely have some tales from the Karakoram to share with us!

TECH TIP- Here's a belay management trick I shared with Jared & Hannah the other day on Chapel Pond Slab:
