The peak of the fall rock season
After spending August and September in the North Cascades (WA) and passing my final AMGA Certified Alpine Guide exam, I was lucky to make it back home just in time for the climax of the fall foliage rock season. Dan was fired up to spend the weekend in the Adirondack backcountry and climb a few routes on Wallface Mountain before the end of rock season. And after a week of crappy wet weather, we (and everyone else rallying for the holiday weekend) were justly rewarded with two crisp, clear and absolutely stellar days. We had a great weekend- hiking in Saturday and scrambling the Case route (II 5.4) in the afternoon, enjoying a fine starlight bivy beneath the cliff in Indian Pass, and climbing the mega-classic Diagonal route (III 5.8) on Sunday before walking out. We both agreed that it was one of our best weekends in the mountains, anywhere, ever. It's good to be home. - J
