Likin' Lichen!
Last weekend Robert joined Cloudsplitter for a big day of adventure in the High Peaks. Gothics is one of the Adirondacks most aesthetic mountains, with large, clean slabs on every aspect- all a long way from any trailhead. We've climbed the North face together in winter- which is the preferred season for climbing and skiing in this cirque- but a more recent slide path on the southern edge still makes for a reasonable summer route. The South Face is better known in the summer for a few high quality rock climbs on the clean slabs. It's a long way in no matter how you slice it- so Robert figured we might as well go big and do them both in a long day. He got in the first of several 'adventure climbs' he wants to do this summer- and I got in a full day of training before I head out West to Rainier and the North Cascades. While there was plenty of lichen to contend with in places- we wanted adventure and commitment in a wild setting- and we got it! -JW
