I Wanna Rock

DomJam.jpg

Domenic. Jammin'.

The grass is green, trees are budding and spring is in the air. And time for a visit from Domenic, ready to get going on this year's rock season. Domenic is from Montreal, Quebec, but unlike many of his Canadian brethren who favor the icy endeavors with tools and skates, Dom's more into rock climbing, and this season is 'game on.'

We met years ago as Dom first got into rock climbing and have climbed together since at least a few times a season. Over the years we've worked on his skills and mileage first as a partner, then as a leader and along the way we've climbed a bunch of classic routes here together. Last weekend we caught up and schemed about this season over a hearty breakfast at the Noonmark Diner and then put in a good day of multi-pitch cracks at Pitchoff Mountain and new-school bolted face climbs at Spanky's Wall. A great 'tune-up' day. Thanks Domenic!

Look at those clean cracks. 'Nuff said.

I've also had the chance to get out and train some w/ fellow guides in preparation for an upcoming trip to Yosemite. Colin and I hiked up to Bear Den- a recently rediscovered gem of a crag high on the flanks of Whiteface Mountain ski area. I hear Yosemite granite is impeccable, but it's hard to imagine rock much better than up at Bear Den. It's that good.
