Game On! Winter 2009

Cloudsplitter's 2009 winter season formally begins the weekend of Dec. 13th. But thanks to a cold snap and an especially wintry start to the holidays, the winter climbing season has already started! There's excitement in the air in Keene Valley: lots of climbers in and out of the Mountaineer (new picks anyone?) with daily reports of creative approaches (the lakes aren't all frozen yet) and eager locals enjoying the standard routes in fresh and thin conditions, skiers headed to Whiteface Mountain to ride the lifts or skin up the back side, and a lot more people sporting Nepal Tops and harnesses at the coffee shop! We'll surely have some more thaw-freeze cycles before winter finally sets in for the long haul- but for those who like scrappy winter climbing- it's game time! Emilie took a few photos while exploring the current options in Chapel Pond Canyon and Cascade Pass:
