Big Slide Mountain
The annual Ironman Triathlon was in Lake Placid last Sunday. It was a beautiful day. But rather than jockey with the traffic and competitors, (local climber) Chris and I opted for a personal day climbing in the High Peaks. The base of the east face of Big Slide Mountain is about 3.5 miles in up the Brothers Ridge. With scenic views above the John's Brook Valley and Gothic's North Face, it's a spectacular setting. The climbing is a pleasant mix of face and friction climbing on immaculate rock for two pitches. The direct continuation to the summit is a decidely less immaculate thrash through less clean terrain, but ending on the summit is a worthwhile reward. Check out the video...
