Keene Valley and Riverside Basecamp:
The Keene Valley region is one of the most accessible communities in the country for traditional rock and ice climbing- it's why we've chosen to make a living here as career mountain guides. The High Peaks and Lake Champlain regions offer satisfying climbing and mountaineering objectives for all abilities. Combined with alpine style village and resort accomodations in the local communities of Keene Valley and Lake Placid, the Adirondacks remain a unique and rewarding adventure destination.
Our Riverside Basecamp is located in 'the heart of the High Peaks' at the west end of Rt. 73 in Keene Valley, NY - behind the Rivermede Organic Farm store, and just down the street from the Mountaineer. The Mountaineer has been the region‘s leading independent outdoor retailer since 1975- mountaineer.com
Our Riverside yurt is a distinctive modern structure made by Pacific Yurts, but is based on an ancient Mongolian nomadic design. At Riverside we share frontage on an open grassy field and the banks of the East Branch of the Ausable River. The yurt serves as Cloudpslitter's office, base of operations and our storefront. Within walking distance on Main Street is the legendary Mountaineer outdoor gear shop, a classically Adirondack hardware/general store, several good cafes, a nice restaurant/bar w/ a good deck, several historic B&B/lodges, a quality hostel and a famous diner.
